Resource # 1: How you should read the handbook?

- Read From April 29 to May 12 (see plan below)
- Training # 2 - Saturday, May 13
Your goal is to get the Pastor Search Handbook a manual you can be familiar to use at any moment and at any time during this process. My goal is to help you take a bite of it a few pages at a time. Please use the outline below. At the end of this guide is our Training # 2. Please use your pen and write on the the Pastor Search Handbook for notes or questions you may have. Happy Reading everyone.
April 29 - May 3
Preface - p. 4
Chapter 1: Preliminary Considerations - p. 5
Chapter 2: Forming a Pastor Search Committee - p. 7
Chapter 3: Getting Started - p. 10
Chapter 4: Three Profiles - p. 18
Questions and Points to Ponder on :
- What is FBC of Wahiawa's Constitution and Bylaws say about Pastor Search (p. 7)?
- The absence of a nominating committee does not nullify actions taken by the church especially when the bylaws require for such a committee. Remember, the the bylaws is a guide and the body can act according to its reality in cases when the bylaws requirement could not be specifically fulfilled (p. 8).
- What other prayer requests can be added in relation to the work of the pastor search committee (p. 10)?
- What is your reaction after reading 1 Tim. 3:1-13 and Titus 1:5-9 (p. 12)?
- What situation should happen for an interim pastor to be considered to apply for pastor (p. 13)?
- In what way can the "internal candidates" post an awkward spirit during the process (p. 13)?
- What are the three profiles and their importance (p. 18)?
May 4 - May 7
Chapter 5: The Process - p. 23
- Step One - Profiles
- Step Two - Receiving Resumes
- Step Three - Narrowing the Candidate Field
- Step Four - First Contact
- Step Five - Getting Started
- Step Six - Pursuing One Candidate Uniquely
- Step Seven - Interviewing the Candidate
- Step Eight - Confirming God's Leadership
- Step Nine - Assimilating the Pastor and His Family
Questions and Points to Ponder On
- Why are timetables (or due dates) important to the process (p. 24-25)?
- Background checks had become an important tool that comes along the candidate. What company in your community who takes care of this.
- What's the wisdom behind interviewing a candidate twice (p. 33)?
- What is "in view of a call" (p. 35)?
- It's easy to say that once pastor had accepted the call that the pastor search committee dissolves. While this is ideal, it maybe better to keep in touch with the committee while the pastor is in probation period.
May 8 - 9
Chapter 6: Process Summary
Appendix
- Look over Chapter 6 and assess what areas may need a lot of inputs from the committee and why?
- The church may assign any committee to fulfill a certain function especially in the absence of the specific committee
- After reading the sample church profile and community profile, how would you elaborate our church and our community (p. 46-47)?
- What are ways to come up with a Pastor profile (p. 48)?
- What are some elements you feel should or should not be included in the Pastoral Compensation Arrangements list (p. 64)
